I wonder what engine he was using. And no, it's not the highest rating because cheating makes it null.

He used multiple accounts. Probably just wanted to see if the graph would explode if it crossed the 3000 mark.

He wasn't using an engine, he'd just use one account to feed ratings points into another. So once he'd got one account with a rating of 2000 he'd use the provisional ratings system to get another account up to 2400, and so on. None of the games he played lasted more than 3 or 4 moves.

Identical checkmates against the same opponent, you mean? A tad suspicious, but no-one seems to be profiting overmuch.

I see you're playing him here Game 3515025. Can't comment on games in prog., but don't let him win!!

Yes, drogonteeth got banned, but not the person who beat him twenty times (joe420). There is obviously an attempt to manipulate the rating system by these two, if indeed they are not the same person.

Speaking of cheating, did dragonteeth really use an engine? Looking at his graph it looks unlikely...

3b doesn't only mean using an engine, it can mean any form of over the board cheating. In this case drogonteeth was losing on purpose to boost another player's rating.

That is 3(a) though, not 3(b)...

3a is creating more than one account. The admins are usually pretty good at tracking down all of the accounts of someone, presumably they use the IP addresses. Since joe420's hasn't been banned, I assume he isn't the same person as drogonteeth (or at least the accounts didn't use the same computer).

Although the wording of 3d doesn't specifically mention losing on purpose, I think the "assisted by a third party" could be made to apply here since a third party (drogonteeth) assisted joe420 by resigning 20+ games to him!

Well I'm not sure. I cross checked with one of his apparently real games and I doubt he was using an engine. If they banned the assistant why not the assisted? It was at 08:46 so probably not because they haven't got round to it yet. There are other possibilities, one is that he was deliberately hammering his account to annoy his opponents, to joe420's unwitting benefit, and the admin who terminated the account went for 3b instead of 3c on a marginal, but fairly unimportant, decision as to what category to ban him/her under. Also maybe he started abusing someone and it should have been 3c but whoever terminated the account clicked the wrong link and it's not really worth correcting the error. It's also possible that he pm'ed people and was asking them for help on in progress games. Since the admins don't make a habit of explaining their decisions to satisfy idle curiosity we'll probably not find out.

Oh btw., IP addresses would unfairly catch two friends of mine who live together and are certainly not the same person. I think in the first place they go on e-mail addresses and only look at IP addresses if they get suspicious.
